Madisonville was named Tellico until 1830 when the name was changed to Madisonville in honor of Madison Greenway, who circulated a petition and presented to the State Legislature. The City of Madisonville was chartered in 1915.

Welcome to Madisonville, the county seat of Monroe County, Tennessee! Madisonville is situated in the center of a rural county that offers wonderful bene ts to its citizens. We are a community of compassionate people who are interested in helping our neighbors; and we welcome newcomers with open arms.

Our city was chartered in 1915 and has enjoyed more than 100 years of success and growth.

One of the most recent areas of growth is our new library. The library is located in the Houston Park area and is scheduled to open in the summer of 2016. When completed, it will offer more than 6,000 square feet of reading material, state of the art equipment, and a community room that will be available to the public for meetings, parties, etc.
Another area in which we are experi- encing growth is that of our new sewer plant process. Construction is slated to begin in the very near future and this new

facility will eliminate the need for additional revenue to meet repair costs, and will allow us to service more customers. Kefauver Park hosts a variety of activities for you and your family to enjoy including shing in our beautiful lake, walking the scenic walking trails, cooling off on a hot summer day at the water pad, or picnicking under one of our pavilions. This park is also the venue for local sporting events, and the annual Fishing

Rodeo sponsored by the Madisonville Police Department. In addition to Kefauver Park, we have two other sports complexes where you can spend your Saturdays watching sporting events of all types, for young and old alike.
We are a very patriotic community, as evidenced by our “Parade of Flags” held each July 4. These ags give honor and recognition to veterans, local heroes, and just good folks.

We welcome you and look forward to sharing our unique community with you. Madisonville is a place you will want to call your hometown.

Sincerely,
Mayor Glenn Moser
